How Do I Redeem Shares (Make a Withdrawal) from My Account?

You may redeem shares from your mutual fund account using the following methods:

By Mail

To make a one-time withdrawal from your non-retirement account, complete the Non-Qualified Redemption Request form and send it to the address on the form.

A Medallion Signature Guarantee MUST be provided on all distribution requests that are:

  • More than $100,000 (in the aggregate) from the Funds
  • Payable to other than the account shareholder(s), Principal Life, or Principal Bank
  • Exchanges or transfers among accounts with different ownership
  • Requesting a sales proceeds check to be mailed to an address other than the address on the account or to the address on the account if it has been changed within the preceding 15 days

For retirement or education accounts, please complete the appropriate account distribution request by following the instructions on the form:

By Telephone

Redemptions by telephone are provided to customers who have telephone privileges established on their account, have not changed their address of record within the preceding 15 days, and are redeeming less than $100,000. Proceeds will be sent to your address or to a previously authorized bank account. Call a Client Relations Specialist at 1.800.222.5852 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Central time on any business day to request a redemption.

Telephone redemptions are NOT available for 403(b) plans, inherited IRAs, and certain employer-sponsored benefit plans. Please contact your financial professional for assistance.

By Check Writing

If you own shares of a Principal Funds Money Market Fund, you may write a check just as you do from your bank account. Simply write the check to yourself or a designated payee (minimum $250).

By Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP)

Using the Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP) Request form, you may arrange to take funds out of your existing Principal Funds non-retirement account automatically on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual basis. The minimum withdrawal per Fund is $100.

Do not use this form for retirement accounts. For assistance with distributions from a retirement account, please contact your financial professional.
