Principal Expands Opportunity for Investing in Quality Growth Companies
The Principal Blue Chip Fund, benchmarked to the Russell 1000® Growth Index, launched June 13, 2012, and seeks long-term growth of capital through investment in what we believe are high-quality growth companies.
The Fund provides an attractive alternative for long-term investors seeking a growth stock strategy with potentially lower volatility. The investment strategy favors well-run companies with good balance sheets – characteristics that may help provide stability in downward markets, while allowing participation in up markets.
A team led by Portfolio Manager Bill Nolin is responsible for the Principal Blue Chip Fund, using an investment strategy that is a natural extension of the time-tested process they have successfully deployed within the Principal MidCap Blend Fund (Class I: PCBIX) for over a decade.
The investment team is familiar with many large-cap companies because a number are suppliers, customers, and competitors of the mid-cap companies they currently cover. According to Nolin, the new Blue Chip Fund allows for increased participation in Morningstar's Large Growth category. "Many of the mid-cap companies we previously owned in PCBIX have successfully transitioned to large-cap status. The new Fund allows us to continue investing in these growth companies."
